Fencing in Petts Wood — London Borough of Bromley

Petts Wood gardens are typically enclosed by fencing rather than walls, and many of the runs we replace are original or near-original — timber posts rotted at the base with panels still sound.
If the panels are in good condition and only the posts have gone, we can replace posts and gravel boards and refit the existing panels. It is cheaper, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a full fence you do not need.
Rear garden fencing is normally allowed up to two metres under permitted development. Where you and a neighbour share the cost, we are happy to quote each side separately so the arrangement is clear.
Front boundary changes in the conservation area can be controlled. Check with Bromley Council before removing an existing front boundary feature.
Full detail on materials and build-up is on our fencing page, and more about the area on our Petts Wood page.
Often yes. If the panels are sound, replacing rotten posts with concrete posts and gravel boards gives you most of the lifespan of a new fence at a lower cost. We will assess the panels honestly at the estimate.
