Brickwork in Bromley — London Borough of Bromley

Brickwork across the Bromley borough spans Victorian stock brick near the town centre, interwar red facings in the suburbs and modern estate brick further out — three different matching problems requiring three different approaches.
The 1930s housing that dominates much of the borough used facing bricks that are still obtainable in close matches. We source samples and lay a test area where the repair is prominent.
We rake out mechanically only where the brick can take it, otherwise by hand, and repoint in a mix appropriate to the wall — softer for older solid walls, not a hard cement fillet.
A lot of our brickwork here is finishing off other work: rebuilding a pier after a driveway, making good around new windows or forming a brick porch base.
Full detail on materials and build-up is on our brickwork page, and more about the area on our Bromley page.
Yes, and it is often the sensible approach — the weather-facing elevation usually fails first. The repointed elevation will look cleaner than the others until it weathers in, which we will show you on a sample area before committing.
