Driveways in Orpington — London Borough of Bromley

Orpington and the villages around it — Chelsfield, Farnborough, Green Street Green, Crofton — include some of the longest domestic driveways we build. Length changes the engineering: cross-fall, edge restraint and drainage all have to be planned over distance rather than assumed.
Over a long run, water picks up speed and volume. We break the fall with cross-falls and drainage points along the drive rather than letting everything arrive at the entrance in one go.
The longer the driveway, the more the edges want to spread under turning vehicles. Every run gets haunched edgings on a concrete bed, and turning areas get particular attention.
Towards Chelsfield and Farnborough the ground can be chalky or flinty. It usually drains well, which helps, but the excavation and compaction still need adjusting to what we actually find on site.
Full detail on materials and build-up is on our driveways page, and more about the area on our Orpington page.
Yes. They need a wider entrance geometry and a stronger edge detail on the turn, and two crossovers if you are creating a second entrance — which means a further council application. We set out the turning arc on site so you can check it works with your vehicle.
